Practice Plan Templates

Save and reuse effective practice structures.

What are Templates?

Templates are reusable practice plan structures that you can apply to new plans. Instead of building from scratch each time, start with a proven template and customize.

Benefits:

  • Save time on repetitive planning
  • Maintain consistent practice structure
  • Share effective formats across coaches
  • Build a library of practice approaches

Creating a Template

From an Existing Plan

  1. Open a practice plan you want to save as template
  2. Click Save as Template in the menu
  3. Give the template a name
  4. Add description and tags
  5. Save

From Scratch

  1. Go to Practice PlansTemplates
  2. Click Create Template
  3. Build your template structure
  4. Add time slots, activities, and placeholders
  5. Save the template

Template Structure

Templates can include:

Fixed Elements

  • Time slot durations
  • Activity types (warmup, drill, scrimmage)
  • Transition times
  • Water breaks

Placeholders

  • Sports-specific drill slots
  • Customizable content areas
  • Notes sections

Using Templates

Apply to New Plan

  1. Create a new practice plan
  2. Click Use Template or Start from Template
  3. Select a template
  4. The structure populates your plan
  5. Customize the specific content

Apply to Existing Plan

  1. Open an existing plan
  2. Click Apply Template
  3. Choose merge behavior:
    • Replace - Clear current and apply template
    • Append - Add template content after existing

Managing Templates

Editing Templates

  1. Go to Practice PlansTemplates
  2. Click on a template
  3. Edit the structure
  4. Save changes

Editing a template doesn't affect plans already created from it.

Organizing Templates

  • Add tags for filtering (e.g., "Early Season", "Game Week")
  • Group by type (Position Work, Full Team, Recovery)
  • Mark favorites for quick access

Sharing Templates

Templates are shared across your team—all coaches with access can use them.

Best Practices

Create Templates For

  • Typical practice day structure
  • Game week practices (Day 1, Day 2, etc.)
  • Position-specific practices
  • Recovery/light days
  • Pre-game walkthroughs

Template Naming

Use clear, descriptive names:

  • "Game Week - Tuesday (Install Day)"
  • "Standard Practice - 2 Hour"
  • "Position Work - Offensive Line"
