Creating Plays
Learn how to create and design plays in the Athmete playbook editor.
Starting a New Play
- Navigate to Playbook in the sidebar
- Click the + New Play button
- Enter a name for your play
- Select the play type (Offense, Defense, or Special Teams)
The Play Editor Canvas
The canvas is where you design your plays. Here's what you can do:
Adding Players
- Click the Add Player button in the toolbar
- Click on the canvas to place the player
- Drag players to reposition them
- Players are color-coded based on your team colors
Drawing Routes
- Select a player on the canvas
- Click the Route tool in the toolbar
- Click to add points along the route path
- Double-click to finish the route
- Routes can be curved or straight
Route Types

| Run | Solid line for running routes |
| Pass | Dashed line for passing routes |
| Block | Shows blocking assignments |
| Motion | Pre-snap player movement |
Adding Text & Labels
- Use the Text tool to add labels
- Add play calls, assignments, or notes
- Position text anywhere on the canvas
Saving Your Play
- Click Save when you're done
- Choose a folder to organize your play
- Add tags for easy filtering later
Play Variants
Create variations of plays for different situations:
- Open an existing play
- Click Add Variant
- Name the variant (e.g., "vs Cover 2")
- Make your modifications
- Save the variant
Variants let you keep related plays together while showing different looks or adjustments.
Tips for Better Plays
- Use consistent colors for player roles
- Keep routes clear - avoid overlapping lines
- Add assignment text for clarity
- Use tags to organize by situation
