Using Formations in Plays
Apply formations to your plays for quick setup.
Applying a Formation
When creating or editing a play:
- Open the play editor
- Click Formation or the formation icon in the toolbar
- Browse or search your formation library
- Click a formation to apply it
- Players snap into position
The formation's player positions are copied into your play as the starting positions.
Adjusting After Application
After applying a formation, you can:
- Move individual players - Fine-tune positions
- Add more players - For special situations
- Remove players - For smaller group plays
- Rotate the formation - Flip or mirror
Your adjustments only affect the current play, not the original formation.
Switching Formations
To change to a different formation:
- Click Formation in the toolbar
- Select a new formation
- Choose how to handle existing content:
- Replace all - Clear current positions
- Merge - Keep existing elements, update positions
Formation-Play Relationship
When you apply a formation to a play, the player positions are copied into the play. The play does not maintain a live link to the formation.
This means:
- Editing the formation later doesn't change existing plays
- Each play is independent
- You can safely modify formations without side effects
Pre-Snap vs Post-Snap
Formations define pre-snap positions—where players line up before the play starts.
Pre-snap (Formation)
- Static player positions
- How players align initially
Post-snap (Play Editor)
- Motion and routes
- Player movements
- Design the action
